why I like it

Having lived in Nob Hill for several years and having worked in FiDi, Yummy Bakery became my go-to Asian bakery in the Chinatown area that I would frequently take friends and coworkers to for a treat. While other places may be more famous, I preferred the fact that this bakery had predictable and regular operating hours (cough, Golden Gate Bakery) with pretty solid standard fare Asian bakery items at an affordable price.
People love the egg tarts here (it's become many a person's go-to ever since the aforementioned GGB closed during the pandemic); I think it's worth mentioning that they have an egg white tart for those who are a bit more cholesterol-conscious. They are flaky and not too sweet (the best compliment an Asian dessert can earn), but I find that I prefer the regular egg tarts over the egg white ones. I'm a sucker for a soft and fluffy pineapple bun, which is what I end up ordering 9 times out of 10 while picking up a loaf of milk bread too.
Like many an SF bakery, they sell out of their most popular items regularly, but you can order ahead via phone. Be warned though, they are cash only but do take Venmo.
what to know
Small counter with traditional Asian bakery items: bread buns with various fillings, sponge cakes, and a few specialty items like egg tarts and moon cakes. The bread loaves are on the back shelf to the left of the register.
Line up and order with the attendant at the counter, and pay at the end. They are cash only but take Venmo.
Warnings:
cash only (Venmo accepted)
catfish: this isn't a cafe despite its name
sells out quickly: their most popular items are typically sold out by midday
standing room only, but there are parks nearby where you can sit
not gluten-friendly (as most bakeries are)
